Sideloading (side-loading) is in feite het toestaan van applicaties (of software in het algemeen) om op het toestel te installeren zonder via de App Store te gaan. Kortom, je kunt de app downloaden en rechtstreeks op het toestel installeren. Dit is al toegestaan op Android, macOS, Windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple beweert dat sideloaden de veiligheid en privacy van iOS zou vernietigen. Echter, zelfs zonder sideloading hebben we al iOS-malware gezien die de App Store beveiligingstesten doorstond. Dezelfde iOS malware was vervolgens beschikbaar voor gebruikers om te downloaden als een legitieme en geverifieerde app<\/a>. Daarnaast is zijwaarts laden al beschikbaar in macOS. Handmatige actie is daar vereist om software van derden te installeren. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tim Cook zegt dat Android meer malware heeft dan iOS en hij geeft de schuld aan side-loading<\/a>. Het is vermeldenswaard dat telefoons in het Google-ecosysteem standaard zijn geconfigureerd om alleen de Google Play-winkel als applicatiebron toe te laten. Volgens het meest recente transparantierapport van Google heeft minder dan 0,2% van de Android-toestellen een kwaadaardige app ge\u00efnstalleerd via de offici\u00eble kanalen van Google.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In de Android-wereld moeten degenen die een app van een andere bron willen downloaden, de download expliciet bevestigen en toestemmingen verlenen op hun toestel. Met andere woorden, Android gebruikers die sideloading gebruiken zijn zich terdege bewust van de risico's. Hetzelfde geldt voor iPhone jailbreakers. Wat jailbreaken betreft, is het ook vermeldenswaard dat de recente permanente checkm8-kwetsbaarheid A5-A11 (iPhone 4s-iPhone X)-toestellen trof en kon niet worden gepatcht door Apple<\/a>. Ondanks alle veiligheidsmaatregelen van Apple is de jailbreak-gemeenschap nog steeds actief en persoonlijk ben ik van mening dat dergelijke gemeenschappen noodzakelijk en nodig zijn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SIDELOADING EN APPLE INKOMSTEN VERLIES<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Terwijl Apple zich vooral richt op de veiligheids- en privacyredenen met betrekking tot de sideloading-functie. Het is vermeldenswaard dat Apple een deel neemt - tot 30% van de inkomsten die worden gegenereerd door apps die via de App Store worden verspreid. Dit betekent dat het inschakelen van sideloading hun business model kan schaden. Bovendien, als je App auteur weet je nooit of je App zal worden aanvaard in de AppStore of verwijderd uit de AppStore zonder enige uitleg van Apple. Er is ook een antitrust rechtszaak aangespannen door Epic Games. Epic wil zijn games aanbieden op Apple apparaten buiten de App Store<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoewel naar mijn persoonlijke mening veiligheid een zeer belangrijke factor is voor elk apparaat tegenwoordig, denk ik dat gebruikers de optie moeten hebben om side loading te gebruiken als ze dat willen. Uiteraard zou deze optie standaard uitgeschakeld moeten zijn, maar toch zou het aanwezig moeten zijn. Ik denk dat gevorderde gebruikers er goed gebruik van kunnen maken (inclusief beveiligingsonderzoekers) en degenen die bang zijn om deze functie te gebruiken, hoeven dat simpelweg niet te doen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
